CDZ SUMMER JAMS 3.0 Breakdown Continued...

Postby Cronic D » 10 Mar 2010 18:35

Hey guys,

Sorry it took me so long to get all this up but here we go...

Man it was a mean day on Sunday 07/03/10 we had an awesome turnout some guys traveling up from Hamilton and as far as Nelson for the CDZ Summer Jams 3.0 Driftcomp, being able to run 2 full classes of 8 with about 3 people to spare this made for an interesting Mix in the Pro & Rookie class everything ran on time and went real smoothly for drifters and judges alike... Judges on the day were Myself & PS13Boy (Dave) and man we had a tough job on our hands.

So enough stalling lets get into it... We started qualifying at around 2:30 and for the first time at our comp we decided to let 2 cars qualify at the same time with a small interval in between start times so you were still pretty much running solo which this allowed everyone to have 3 qualifying runs and the judges would take your 2 best scores add them together dropping your worst, the score was marked on style angle and smooth clean lines with points being deducted for spins.

Each lap you were marked out of 20.

Heres the Qualifying Table:

1st, Mark Fox (CDT), Chassis : TA05, Qualifying Score : 35.5

2nd, Justus Pirihi (CDT), Chassis :TT01, Qualifying Score : 35

3rd, Mike Williams, Chassis :TT01, Qualifying Score : 34.7 (Had to leave after qualifying )

4th, Paul Hardy (07D), Chassis : TA05 Qualifying Score : 33

5th, Chris Soares (CDT) Chassis : TA05, Qualifying Score : 32.5

6th, Kevin Flatt (CDT), Chassis : TBEVO5MS, Qualifying Score : 32

7th, James (07D) Chassis : TA05, Qualifying Score :31.5

8th, Tyler, Chassis :TT01, Qualifying Score :31

9th, Paul Teesdale, Chassis : Cyclone S, Qualifying Score : 30.5

10th, Chevy, Chassis :TT01, Qualifying Score : 30

11th, Phil Rangi (07D), Chassis :TB01, Qualifying Score : 29.5

12th, Kain (07D), Chassis :TA05IFS, Qualifying Score : 29

13th, Dan Miller, Chassis :TA04, Qualifying Score : 28

14th, John Miller (CDZ), Chassis :TA05, Qualifying Score : 27

15th, Ian (07D), Chassis :TA05, Qualifying Score : 24

16th, Mark, Chassis :TB01, Qualifying Score : 20

17th, Jason Priest (CDT), Chassis :Pro D, Qualifying Score : 18.7

DNQ,
18th, Ben, Chassis : TA05, Qualifying Score : 17
19th, Noodle (07D), Chassis : TA05, Qualifying Score : 16.5
20th, Raymond, Chassis : TT01, Qualifying Score : DNF

So lucky for Jason Priest unfortunately Mike Williams had to leave after qualifying so the whole field was then moved forward allowing him to be brought back into the comp as you can see things were pretty tight at the top with the top 8 progressing through to the Pro class and the latter 8 forming the rookie class.

After a bit more drift practice we decided to kick off the Rookie Comp @ around 4:30, heres the draw,

Rookie Section 1st Round Draw

Chevy Vs Jason Priest

Phil Rangi Vs Mark

Kain Vs Ian

Dan Miller Vs John Miller

The rookie comp showed some real good talent on the day and there were a few upsets the biggest probably being the Father & Son battle by the Miller boys, John Miller had been prepping for this day for a while and had even won a past rookie comp only to be knocked out by his son who had flown up especially from Nelson to dish out some sideways devastation, Although gutted to be knocked out of the comp in the first round John was happy to see Dan progress through to the next round.

Rookie Comp Round 2

Chevy Vs Phil Rangi

Ian Vs Dan Miller

Now these two battles were close, my favourite for the day was Chevy he had been pulling some nice consistent lines all day but unfortunately it all fell apart for him on the last lap allowing Phil to move into the finals , Now the other match up Ian & Dan , at a past Summer jams comp Ian was picked as a favourite to take out the Rookie section unfortunately that day didnt go in his favour however you could see that he had come back today more determined than ever knocking Dan out and securing himself a place against Mr Rangi they are both 07D boys so at the end of the day bragging rights for 1st place CDZ Summerjams was going back to Hamilton either way.

Rookie Comp 3rd Round Finals

Phil Rangi Vs Ian

Another one almost to close to call Phil took Ian on the first run but unfortunately had steering issues as a screw had worked itself loose from the linkages Phil opting to carry on was taken down as Ian managed to hold to his angle with consistency... Congratulations Ian of 07D on the win !!!! who took away on the day a HPI Lexus ISF 200 Concept Body , good on ya bro.

I'll get the pro section up soon guys I need a break... To be continued...

Alrite back to it......

Straight after the Rookie comp it was time for the big bois to step up so roll on the PRO comp.

Heres the draw...

Pro Comp Round 1 Draw

Mark Fox Vs Paul Teesdale

Justus Pirihi Vs Tyler

Paul Hardy Vs James

Chris Soares Vs Kevin Flatt

Now thats a pretty decent mix up lots of experience in this field and it showed by the level of drifting brought to the table.. The biggest question on everyones mind was would Kevin take this comp out or would he have a shocker of a day and crumble like a stale biscuit Chris did his best to hold Kevin at bay but unfortunately his best was not enough havin major car issues on his last lap forcing him to resign allowing Kevin to proceed.... Justus & Tyler was also a good match up Im pretty sure these 2 guys are around the same age about 14-15 Now the level of skill that these young fellas showed in the qualifying rounds secured them a pretty solid place in the top 8 the enthusiasm and concentration for thier craft that these guys showed was awesome and its what we like to see in our developing drifters, but only one can go through to the next round and Justus taking the home turf advantage managed to only just out skool Tyler to step up to the next level...

Pro Comp Round 2

Mark Fox Vs Justus Pirihi

Paul Hardy Vs Kevin Flatt

Mark managed to out class Justus in thier last heat it was touch and go but clean lines and good pace secured Mark Fox a place in the final, Paul Hardy had a tough job on his hands but Kev having a spot of trouble seemed to fall behind a bit Paul captilized on this only to be taken out on the last corner an absolute gutter of an outcome allowing Kev to once again take his place in the final.

Pro Comp Round 3

Mark Fox Vs Kevin Flatt

The crowd was cheering Mark on as the underdog and Mark didnt fail to deliver a spectacle, things were tense as Mark was looking to walk away with some clean rounds but a last second muck up destroyed his run allowing Kev to ever so slightly take the top podium place. Congrats Kevin Flatt (CDT) for Taking 1st Place at the rookie comp, now Kevs won a few of these comps before so being the good guy that he is he donated his prize to 2nd Place & walked away with a set of Tamiya Super Driftecs and a free session pass.

Winners on the day :
